Sheet Masks Review

Hello Lovelies,

If you follow us on instagram, you know that we have a tendency to post more reviews there than we do here. But fear not, in celebration of reviewing ten sheet masks from different brands, we are reproducing the reviews here and adding some extra info.

Etude House – Tea Tree Mask

This review will be quite short because I believe this range was discontinued as I can’t seem to find it on Etude House’s website. The product was gifted to me with a purchase, and I couldn’t wait to use it as it claimed to soothe and clear my skin, plus it had tea tree in it which is always a bonus.

69612623_2356458568005309_6189009833010659328_n

The material of the sheet mask was soft and dripping with essence. The fit was good as it covered my face and then extended a bit to just under my chin so that even the bumps I get under my chin were covered by the sheet mask. This does not smell of tea tree for those of you who do not like its overpowering smell. Alas, no noticeable difference to my red bumps, although I did feel that my skin was a bit more hydrated than before. Will not repurchase.

Benton – Snail Bee High Content Mask Pack

Claims:

Reignite a youthful glow with the Snail Bee High Content Mask Pack from Korean brand, Benton. Crafted from pure cotton, each multi-beneficial, pre-moistened sheet mask comprises 66% Sinensis Leaf Water and 20% Snail Secretion Filtrate to help smoothen rough, dry skin damaged by pollution and environmental aggressors. Suitable for all skin types, including sensitive and troublesome, its dose of Bee Venom delivers intense moisture and hydration, whilst providing anti-ageing properties to minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The treatment soothes and cools to leave your complexion looking clearer, brighter and more refined with renewed radiance and improved texture.

Ingredients:

Camellia Sinensis Leaf Water, Snail Secretion Filtrate, Glycerin, Arbutin, Pentylene Glycol, Diospyros Kaki Leaf Extract, Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract, Plantago Asiatica Extract, Laminaria Digitata Extract, Ulmus Campestris (Elm) Extract, Althaea Rosea Root Extract, Aloe Barbadenis Leaf Extract, Bacillus Ferment, Azelaic Acid, Zanthoxylum Piperitum Fruit Extract, Pulsatilla Koreana Extract, Usnea Barbata (Lichen) Extract, Butylene Glycol, Sodium Hyaluronate, rh-Oligopeptode-1,Beta-Glucan, Betaine, Bee Venom, Xantham Gum, Panthenol, Adenosine, Allantoin.

According to COSDNA, there are no red flags in the ingredients list, which to me, is a first,  although the Butylene Glycol is comedogenic. The Camellia Sinensis Leaf Water (green tea extract) is an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory and it stimulates circulation and reduces the breakdown of collagen. Snail Secretion Filtrate (snail slime) is packed with nutrients such as hyaluronic acid, glycoprotein, proteoglycans, and antimicrobial and copper peptides, all of which are commonly used in beauty products and proven to be beneficial for the skin. Willow Bark Extract is used in cosmetics and personal care products for its astringent, anti-inflammatory, soothing and conditioning properties. The Kelp Extract is hydrating and increases the skin’s elasticity whilst bee venom is an astringent, has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, and plumps the skin.

Thoughts:

The sheet mask is indeed cotton and it was dripping with essence, some was even left in the pack. One of my complaints is that there was about a thumb’s width at the side of my face which didn’t fit into the mask, and I do have a long and not a wide face.

This sheet mask was supposed to improve wrinkles, whiten and soothe the skin…alas in my case while there was a lot of whitening going on, not a lot of soothing happened.  In fact it broke me out big time. Hope you guys have better luck if you decide to try it.

You can purchase it off EBAY if you wish.

Will not repurchase.

Leejiham – Tea Tree Facial Mask Sheet

Claims:

  • Soothe irritated skin,
  • Control sebum, and
  • Moisturise

Ingredients:

Water, Butylene glycol, Ethanol, Grapefruit extract, Tea tree leaf extract, PEG-60 hydrogenated castor oil, Centella asiatica extract, Artemisia extract, Ginkgo leaf etract, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance

Need I go into the benefits of tea tree? It is a god send to those who suffer from acne (enough said).  Grapefruit extracts provides anti-aging benefits as it evens out the skin tone and fights off free radicals. Centella asiatica extract is an antioxidant, helps revitalise the skin’s barrier and has skin soothing properties. Artemisia extract from which mugwort is derived is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and protects the skin whilst producing collagen. Ginkgo leaf extract is a potent antioxidant protection, with skin-soothing effects, and it increases skin-hydration, and provides significant anti-aging defense.

My qualms with the ingredients list are the hydrogenated castor oil and the Phenoxyethanol.

Thoughts:

I am a huge huge fan of the LJH tea tree serum, and the masks were a welcome addition to my collection. The sheet mask fit not so badly (as with the Benton mask sheet, this one was also not wide enough), the tea tree scent was not too strong. The mask full dried after well over 45 minutes, with almost a tablespoon of essence left in the pack to be used later instead of my LJH serum. My irritated skin felt and looked better afterwards – refreshed and soothed notwithstanding the ingredients which could have triggered my acne.

You can purchase yours off EBAY if you wish.

Will definitely repurchase soon.

Malie – Green Tea Ultra Hydrating Essence Mask

Claims:

The product provides enough moisture and nutrition to skin exposed by stimulation from outside, and its active component forms a protective coat and helps moisture not evaporate to moisturize your skin. The moisturizer and softener make your skin healthy, energetic, and clean with enough moisture and nutrition.

Ingredients:

Water, glycerin, ethanol, sodium Hyaluronate, PEG-60 hydrogenated castor oil, phenoxythanol, carbomer, methylparaben, hydroyethylcellose, diaodium EDTA, alltoin, propylene glycol, triethanolamine, green tea extract, fragrance.

The ingredients list is a bit of a downer when compared to the other masks I’ve reviewed above as it contains some ingredients which are comedogenic and irritants, whilst the vast majority of them, according to COSDNA, are not safe to use in the long term. Moreover, green tea is the sole ‘beneficial’ ingredient in the entire list, and I was quite sceptical of its efficiency.

69114527_582054662622191_1089708536721571840_n

Thoughts:

The sheet mask was soft and dripping with essence which smelled fresh and natural. The fit was relatively ok as it covered my entire face quite decently, and I was quite surprised that for such a cheap mask with little to no effective ingredients my skin felt hydrated after leaving the mask on my face for 30 minutes.

I bought mine off EBAY in a set so if the rest are ok I might consider repurchasing.

Tony Moly – I’m Real Tea Tree Mask Sheet

Claims:

A calming sheet mask designed for red, irritated skin.

Developed by skincare specialists Tony Moly, I’m Real Tea Tree Mask Sheet Skin Soothing is a must-have for those that suffer with redness and rosacea. The innovative triple layered mask has been infused with a calming serum that leaves the skin feeling balanced and restored.

Ingredients:

Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, PEG/PPG-17/6 Copolymer, Glycereth-26, Panthenol Bis-Ethoxydiglycol Succinate, Allantoin, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Chlorphenesin Carbomer, Phenoxyethanol, Tromethamine, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Extract 1,2-Hexanediol, Propanediol, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Musa Sapientum (Banana) Fruit Extract, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Caprylyl Glycol, Illicium Verum (Anise) Fruit Extract, Disodium EDTA, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil.

There are three ingredients which are potentially not safe to use in the long term, whilst one ingredient is comedogenic. Nevertheless, the mask contains Allantoin which soothes the skin, helps to heal it, moisturises the skin and has anti-aging properties. Apart from tea tree oil which has already been labelled as a god send to acne prone skin, the mask contains banana fruit extract which has astringent properties and smooths and softens the skin, and Portulaca Oleracea Extract which has skin-soothing properties and is a potent antioxidant.

69343688_379303222757922_4548998505431040000_n

Thoughts:

This mask was also dripping with essence which I stored and used later on during the day because I loved the mask. The smell of tea tree was milder when compared to the LJH mask, and I was able to leave the mask on for 30 minutes before it dried out. I felt that it was beneficial to my skin as it calmed some red bumps I had and left my face feeling saturated. I bought this as part of a set but will consider repurchasing on its own.

You can get yours off EBAY.

Would repurchase.

Malie – Royal Jelly Ultra Hydrating Essence Mask

Claims:

Contains 10HDA, a flavonoid, a nucleic acid, decanoic acid, enzymes, and other skin nutrients to help play much contained. Skin aging delaying the ingredients to promote collagen formation allows to maintain skin elasticity.

Ingredients:

Water, Glycerin, Ethanol, Sodium Hyaluronate, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Carbomer, Methylparaben, Hydroxyethyicellose, Disodium EDTA, Alltoin, Propylene Glycol, Triethanolamine, Royal Jelly Extract, Fragrance

Like the previous Malie mask I reviewed, this sheet mask contains some iffy ingredients which I figured could not possibly be counter-acted by royal jelly extract. The extract is an antioxidant, an anti-inflammatory and may aid wound healing and skin repair.

68856287_2459824980916214_6656224394173480960_n

Thoughts:

I had taken a siesta with the mask so I have no idea how long I kept it on, but the sheet mask was seeping with non-sticky essence with some left in package. I was attentive as to whether the essence would feel sticky on my face, for some reason. The scent was a bit perfumey but it was not overpowering. This mask did nothing for me, it just provided some moisture without any other benefits.

I bought mine off EBAY in a set so if the rest are ok I might consider repurchasing.

Etude House – 0.2mm Therapy Air Pearl Sheet Mask

Claims:

  • Low-irritant mask made of breathable 0.2mm air sheet

  • Contains pearl powder extract and Niacinamide

  • Provides clarity and brightness to skin

Ingredients:

Water, Dipropylene Glycol, Methylpropanediol, Niacinamide, Alcohol, Glycerin, Hydroxyethyl Urea, Biosaccharide Gum-1, Butylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Pearl Extract (2500ppm), Arginine, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Allantoin, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Coptis Japonica Root Extract, Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) Root Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Dehydroacetic Acid, Sodium Hyaluronate, Disodium EDTA, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, Polyglyceryl-10 Myristate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Boswellia Serrata Gum, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Beta-Glucan, Geranium Maculatum Oil, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Fruit Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, Citrus Paradis (Grapefruit) Peel Oil, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea tree) Leaf Oil,  Phytosteryl/Octyldodecyl Lauroyl Glutamate, Ceramide NP.

According to COSDNA, there are no red flags in the ingredients list,  although the Butylene Glycol is comedogenic. This mask is full of beneficial ingredients! Niacinamide keeps skin firm and healthy, helps skin retain moisture, reduces inflammation, treats hyperpigmentation, minimizes fine lines and wrinkles and treats acne. Pearl Extract accelerates skin metabolism, and reduces skin impurities and redness whilst also regulating skin hydration, accelerating skin renewal and boosting skin vitality. Arginine is an antioxidant that helps build collagen production; and Allantoin heals wounds, has anti-aging benefits, and moisturises whilst exfoliating the skin. Licorice extract is anti-inflammatory and an antioxidant, and helps control oil production, and soothe acne-prone skin, and the ginger extract promotes circulation and is a natural anti-inflammatory which has stimulating, anti-irritant and antiseptic properties to soothe the skin. This mask also contains green tea extract.

68789223_436591506942077_2406627393226670080_n

Thoughts:

I personally found the material (0.2mm) to be too thin for me as I felt that there wasn’t enough material for the essence. In fact, the mask almost slid off my face when I had it on because it was dripping with essence which let to it not being adhesive to the skin. The fit and smell were ok. In spite of the numerous beneficial ingredients, and the whitening claims, I felt that this provided adequate moisture to the skin without the all-out brightening effects.

You may purchase the mask off EBAY.

Would not repurchase.

Holika Holika – Makgeolli Brightening Mask Sheet

Claims:

Mask Makgeolli Brightening Mask Sheet contains Korean rice wine Makgolli that will make your skin radiant and healthy. Herbal ingredients nourish the skin with moisture and nutrients. A high quality natural rice extract helps lighten the tone of the face and prevents the formation of age spots, lightens existing ones.

Some ingredients are comedogenic and irritants, whilst others, according to COSDNA, are not safe to use in the long term. Nevertheless, the mask contains Betaine which temporarily decreases the depth of wrinkles, giving the face a much smoother appearance. Aspergillus/Rice Ferment Extract is rich in minerals, antioxidants, B and E vitamins, and traces of pitera which help to purify and smooth the skin, working to minimize fine lines and decrease the appearance of pores. Prunus Persica Fruit Extract naturally supports anti-inflammation, skin-whitening, and anti-aging. This mask also contains liquorice and artemisia extract which I’ve discussed above, and honeysuckle extract which is a source of antioxidants, protect the skin against signs of aging, and improves uneven skin tone and dullness. Other botanical extracts help to naturally lighten the skin and protect it against free radicals.

69263109_1556377994501319_2831625578375806976_n

Thoughts:

I had put my mask in the fridge before using it so I experienced a cooling sensation when I put it on, plus the essence did not drip off the mask even though I could tell that the mask was full of it. The fit and smell of the mask were good, and I did notice some fading of red spots on my face and that it looked and felt plump and hydrated.

You can buy yours off EBAY here.

Would repurchase.

Skinfood – Beauty in a Food Mask Sheet (Coconut)

Claims:

A beauty food mask sheet that provides radiance and moisture to dry and rough skin to make it healthy.

Water, Dipropylene Glycol, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Alcohol Denat., Hydroxyethylcellulose, Ethylhexylglycerin, Peg-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit Extract, Xanthan Gum, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/Beheneth-25 Methacrylate Crosspolymer, Disodium Edta, Argania Spinosa Kernel Extract, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance

Some ingredients are comedogenic and irritants, whilst others, according to COSDNA, are not safe to use in the long term. Perhaps the two only noteworthy ingredients in the list are coconut fruit extract, which is used in skincare for its skin-conditioning fatty acids, proteins, and complex B vitamins, and argan oil which nourishes, protects elasticity and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

69234864_2144665209164343_1432655211381391360_n

Thoughts:

I do not use coconut oil or extracts of coconut on my face so purchasing this mask was a huge risk for me and it put me way out of my comfort zone. Even though I quite enjoyed this mask, the fit was decent and I was a bit disappointed that it didn’t smell like coconut. I didn’t notice any significant changes to my skin other than a bit of a ‘moisture’ glow which quickly disappeared after the essence was patted into the skin.

You can buy yours off EBAY here.

I will not be repurchasing.

Thoughts:

The fit was good and it adhered well to my face even though the mask was dripping of essence. Some was even leftover in the pack! The mask was cooling, putting it in the fridge before using it helped a lot, and the redness I was experiencing was reduced significantly after utilising this mask.

You may buy it off EBAY by using the link here.

I would definitely repurchase this once I use up some of the masks I have accumulated.

…..

So that is it for this long post! Please leave any feedback you have below and I hope you found this helpful.
